What is a KidsMeet?
KidsMeet is a concept developed from the success of TeachMeet. KidsMeet events provide children with the opportunity to speak about their learning in a positive environment. This is the first time that a KidsMeet has been held on the Wirral, with only a handful of similar events having taken place across the country so far. Essentially, the event brings together children from different schools to share their passion for learning. All those attending should be able to present on a website, app, project or topic that really gets them excited! They'll share these with children from other schools and hopefully return to their own school full of ideas and all fired up.
The video below, from Hawes Side School, helps to explain what a KidsMeet is.

How did it work?
- Up to three children from your school should arrive at Bidston Avenue Primary by 9.30am.
- You'll be welcomed by some of our children and be taken to our venue for the day, the school hall.
- Once the children from the participating schools have arrived, we'll run with the plan below.
- We will be finished by 2.30pm, allowing you to return to your school in time for the end of the school day.
- Children should bring a packed lunch with them. We'll provide refreshments for break times.
- You can either accompany your children for the day or just drop them off and collect them in the afternoon.

Speed Learning (for children) explained
One of the most exciting parts of the KidsMeet is the Speed Learning. All the children attending should be willing to share a project/website/app/topic that really interests them, for 3mins. They might want to make a presentation, bring some examples of their work, a booklet they've made- it's up to them! They'll have 3mins to talk about this and then a further 2mins to discuss it, with other children who will visit their table. After 5mins the children 'touring' will move to a different table and the children presenting will repeat their presentation. We'll do this three or four times.
The Genius Bar
If you've ever visited an Apple Store, you may have seen the 'Genius bar'. This is a space where you can ask for help, tips and advice using your Apple device. The KidsMeet Genius bar will work in exactly the same way, just with children showing off an app of their choice. It could be one that they've used in school to help them learn something, or a favourite app/website they use at home.
The Paperwork
Once you've signed up, we'll send through further details of the day, a risk assessment and a permission letter for parents that will include a statement about us being able to record the event and presentations to share online.
We want the first KidsMeet to have a big impact, big enough to start a series of similar events over the year. For that reason, we're asking all the schools involved to commit to dedicating staff meeting time for your children to feedback about the KidsMeet to your staff and share something they have learnt. They could even run a 'Genius bar' of their own! This may just be a 10min slot and should be completed within two weeks of the event.
